Teaching

The Dental Clinics of the University of Bern are an accredited institution for study course in Dentistry, which leads to a federal diploma from a university. This study course must be accredited in accordance with the requirements of the HFKG (Federal Act on Funding and Coordination of the Higher Education Sector) and the MedBG (Federal Act on Medical Professions). Every seven years, an analysis is carried out in a regulated procedure. The Institution for accreditation and quality Assurance of the Swiss Universities (AAQ) opened the accreditation procedure in November 2017. On 14/15.05.2018, the on-site visit of an expert group took place and on 22.06.2018 the opinion by the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern was issued . On the 07.12.2018, the Swiss Accreditation Council granted accreditation for the period 2018-2025. The seal "study programme accredited according to HFKG & MedBG" has been awarded.

Services

The dental clinics of the University of Bern are organized into five different clinics, which offer specific specialty therapies. In each field, therapy is carried out in accordance to the current international recommendations of professional specialist companies and whenever practicable, in an evidence-based approach. The five clinic directors assume the qualitative responsibility for their clinic and its staff. The clinics also treat patients in accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss Dental Association (SSO) "Quality Guidelines of the SSO in Dentistry".

Research

The dental clinics of the University of Bern has its own laboratory for research. These are divided into the 1) Laboratory for Cariology, Dental Erosions and Dental Materials Science, 2) Robert K. Schenk Laboratory for Oral Histology, 3) Laboratory for Oral Microbiology, 4) Laboratory for Oral Molecular Biology and 5) Laboratory for Oral Cell Biology. From September 2019, the laboratory facilities are located in the sitem-insel (Swiss Institute for Translational and Enterpreneurial Medicine). These laboratories were built according to the latest quality standards. They comply with the guidelines of the Federal Coordination Commission for Occupational Safety (EKAS 1875), the Chemicals Ordinance (ChemO), the Ordinance on the Protection of Workers against Risks from Microorganisms (SAMV) and the standards EN 13792, EN 14175-1, EN 14175-2, EN 14175-3, EN 14175-4 , EN 14175-6, EN 14470-1, EN 14470-2 , EN 15154.
The laboratory facilities comply with ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015.
